Cinnamon Chili
2 tsps cooking oil
1 lb lean ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1 garlic clove, minced ( or 1/4 tsp powder)
1 tbsp chili powder
2 tsp cocoa, sifted if lumpy
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1 bay leaf
19 oz ( 540 ml) can of romano beans, rinsed and drained
14 oz ( 398 ml) can of diced tomatoes (with juice)
7 1/2 oz ( 213 ml) can of tomato sauce
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
Heat cooking oil in large frypan on medium. Add ground beef, onion, and garlic. Scramble-fry for about 10 minutes until beef is no longer pink. Drain. Add next 6 ingredients. Heat and stir for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Add remaining 5 ingredients. Stir. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer, uncovered, for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened. Discard bay leaf.
